Why get involved

Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not. 

8.4 million people of working age (16-64) in the UK reported that they were disabled in October December 2020, which is 20% of the working-age population. 

Employment rates for disabled people in the UK are 53.5%, compared with 81.6% for non-disabled people. Rates of employment were lowest for disabled people with severe or specific learning difficulties, autism, and mental illness. 14% of those working in the automotive retail sector have a disability.  (IMI Diversity Taskforce) 

The Princes Trust #ClassOfCovid report found that 2.8 million 16 to 25-year-olds don’t think their job prospects will ever recover from the pandemic. 

As well as being the socially and ethically right thing to do, there are compelling business reasons why organisations are prioritising diversity and inclusion, including: Improved innovation and problem-solving, Enhanced employee engagement and retention, Increased access to talent, Better decision-making, Improved reputation and Better financial performance.

How to get involved

Think less about the traditional work experience and more about ‘experiences’ of the workplace. How you can help young people to really investigate the sector and truly understand what working in it would be like. 

From offering experiences of work, work tasters, workplace visits, virtual tours, Q&A sessions, internships, employment and training for staff there are a multitude of ways you can support the next generation of automotive talent to experience the sector.
